Description: Herkenrode Vesper is one of only 24 official Belgian Abbey Beers and the winner of many international beer awards. Vesper was created by the 6th-generation family brewery Cornelissen in cooperation with the Cistercian nuns at the Herkenrode monastery, which was founded in 1182. It’s a true and tough Belgian triple, with a 9% ABV, a nice bitterness and a lightly cognac aftertaste. The beer is filtered which gives it a nice clear deep golden color. Vesper is brewed using the high fermentation method, with only top-quality hops, malted barley, water, yeast, and herbs grown at the Herkenrode Abbey itself. The second fermentation inside the bottle, using the old original living yeast of Cornelissen brewery, gives the beer a lively sparkling taste. Today, the beers of the Herkenrode Abbey are the only beers created at an all-female abbey and still available today. Herkenrode Vesper is a proud Belgian beer, a shining example of the country’s brewing heritage.
