Description: This Oatmeal Stout draws inspiration from that ubiquitous beer of the same style hailing from North Yorkshire, England. You know, the one famously fermented in square stone vats? Yeah, that one. Coming in at a sessionable 4.6%, ‘Shawl & Oats’ is built with a less-than-straightforward grain bill of floor malted Maris Otter, malted oats, Golden Naked Oats, and a collection of Murphy & Rude crystal & roasted malts. Leaning into the style’s “across the pond” origins, we opted to ferment this little pub stout with one of our favorite British ale yeasts. We’re getting notes of velvety milk chocolate, oatmeal raisin cookies, toasted hazelnuts, earthy molasses, your granddad’s pipe tobacco, and rich toasted bread.
